Jupiter

Okay, so composition class is the best thing that's ever happened to me.  We're writing a piece AS A CLASS based on several slides of Jupiter (which we pretty much meditated on for about 10 minutes).  We're going to perform it next week.  It's entirely made of sound effects made from our desks (and our voices, of course).  It's crazy, the effects we've come up with... it's going to be so much fun!  It seems like a really creative group of kids, too - and the teacher is so passionate about the right stuff.  Our homework this week is simply to "dwell on Jupiter" each day to make sure our musical ideas are coming from the right place, then think of ideas for how we'll orchestrate it.  Ha!  It's so artsy.  I love it.

Oh, and the mandatory concert attendance twice a week?  It brought tears to my eyes today... that I get to be surrounded by these professionals (faculty/guests perform on Tuesdays, students on Thursdays)... everyone takes music (and the enjoyment of it) so seriously.

I honestly still feel pretty crappy about the social situation - kind of alone and bewildered (and the other 28 year old in first year isn't in any of my classes) - but the privilege of being here and doing this far outweighs the rough bits.
I am totally flying by the seat of my pants in terms of the homework.  Boy oh boy... somebody's been freelancing and freewheeling a little too long and forgets how to manage her time...!

Nighty night, everyone!

The times when I mediate on Jupiter, I tend to make wind-instrument noises.
But hey. That's just me.

what, like a bassoon type of wind instrument, or like a flute type of wind instrument? i'm just trying to hear it in my head...

well it's good to know somebody ELSE is meditating on that planet (even if sarcastically, and while making ambiguous wind instrument noises).
