So I totally love my (million dollar) backpack. BUT... it's painfully obvious that no one USES backpacks anymore. I guess they're not in style? I'm prrretty sure I need it! Anyway, apparently I'm a huge dork. All the students (especially girls) have very fashionable BAGS for everything, and pretty small bags, at that... like big purses. It's quite mysterious.
Oh hey - there's a middle aged rocker in my theory class! I'm not alone! And yet... hmm... still sort of am. That's the hardest thing so far - the social aspect of things. It's an awkward thing to be feeling so different than everyone but appearing so similar.
My piano teacher grabbed my arm this morning and said something very comforting (but still hard to wrap my mind around): "You are NOT in the Royal Conservatory anymore - you are NOT learning RCM repertoire, you are learning MUSIC!" She seemed very interested in Eclectislav... and in Bulgarian music, and Celtic music. She said she'd have my fear of performing dealt with by the end of the year (um, if she says so!). And she thinks I should consider a double major in performance! YEAH RIGHT. But that was definitely encouraging. It sounds like it's going to be QUITE a challenging experience with her. My lessons/masterclasses are still the most nerve-wracking thing for me, and I'd appreciate some prayer when you think of it!!!
Foster, my Skills class is like an advanced HCF Music Training lesson! We were making up songs with numbers/Do Re Mi's, doing rounds of rhythm stuff... it IS a bit of a joke, but a joke I will thoroughly enjoy.
Anyway, I don't want to drown you with details... but let's just say that it's been a delightful day so far and I'm looking forward to composition tonight! I'm still pinching myself. And still have a headache. (I've been pinching myself in the head.) (Just kidding.)
Love to all of you!

Love you! Very glad to be the first to comment on your blog Ruby...
cute "drarring" by the way.
Hope composition was fun tonight!
xo
Yeah, backpacks don't seem to be the "in" thing anymore...but I still used mine until last year, when I finally decided that since I'm a doctor maybe I should grow up and get something else. But backpacks are much more practical, and better for the, well...back.
Cool about your teacher and her comments. I would take them as encouragement, and not something to be terrified about.
Oh dear I knew the recommendation for the backpack would bite me in the rear... I'm just kidding, I enjoy my back pack and have many trendy friends who do not sport backpacks or as my friend Dave would say "booksack", and frankly those people simply don't enjoy life as much as backpackers do!. Ha ha just kidding.
Anyway, thats awesome about your skills class. i knew you'd have no trouble with that class, but i assure you that I would still have trouble with it after all these years. So have mercy on the Foster's of your class... ha ha i know you will!
Keep up the great work, ruby!
I have internet!! Hahha...that would sound like a weird thing to write if you didn't know that I've been living without it for a week.
Kinda like saying 'I have pencils!' Well, there again, see, I like pencils. A lot. They are my writing utensil of choice when I study. So to have a pencil, or pencilS, would be pretty exciting too.
Uh....
RUBYTWOSHOOS IN WATERLOOSNOOZE!
claire, i WISH i was snoozing in waterloo.
well, you know what? for the first time in a really long time, i AM going to take a waterloosnooze at a decent hour. let's say 11. yeah, you heard me... ELEVEN!
okay, so that's unlikely, especially with me procrastinating on the internet right now. but i've been doing work all night! ruby need break! (that was in caveman)
jenn - i love you too! YESSSHHHH??!?!?
jess - my teacher, i've decided, is EXACTLY like barbara simmons (after our masterclass today) but (no offense to barbara) a piano prodigy (or was one as a kid, and is now a... piano genius?)! ooo, and i'm excited about the october 3rd thing.
foster - how the heck is it GOING, mang? i think the backpack recommendation bit ME in the rear more than you... JUST KIDDING... i am totally enamored with my "book sack" and think the other students are (stylish) morons! and there ARE no other fosters in my class... as in... everyone is of an equal skill level to me, AND as in... no one in the class can possibly compare to the surpassing greatness of pigram in ways other than ear training and sight reading.
claire - oh wait, i already said something stupid to you earlier! have you put things on your walls yet? how's kin? he OWRNS spa-orama. oh! and i have pens!
